Nannies

Wimbledon Nannies always seeks to find the most suitable job for nannies; we never put any pressure on you to take a job you are not sure about; you will never be required to pay us any fee. Whether or not you are registered with us, if you have a query or need advice feel free to email or call us on 020 8947 4666

For some nannies it may the first time away from home and finding friends can be extremely important in helping them settle into a new job.

Some applicants become nannies purely by gaining experience (we require sole charge nannies to have a minimum of two years experience) rather than qualifications: however, if you wish to find out more about obtaining relevant qualifications click here or contact your local college, which should be able to give you advice on the differing childcare courses available in your area.

If you are a newly qualified nanny you might find a job quickly as some clients look for newly qualified nannies, however, if you find it more difficult we recommend that you accept a mother's help or junior nanny position in the first instance, in order to gain some experience working in a family environment; such experience can make it easier for you to secure a sole charge nanny position as your second position.

We welcome male nannies and nannies who have their own child or children looking to return to work.

The Role and Responsibilities of a Nanny

A nanny is responsible for a child's safety, development and well being. You will need to possess a flexible, friendly, patient and responsible attitude. Your role is to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which the children can thrive and develop and perform all tasks that correlate to the care of the children. Pay scale can be found here.

Duties may include:
  • undertaking age appropriate creative, educational and fun activities with the children, both in and out of the home
  • preparing and cooking healthy varied meals and snacks
  • children's washing and ironing as well as keeping all children's areas including their bedroom clean and tidy
  • reinforcing appropriate discipline for the children in line with the parent's ethos

We ask all of our candidates to apply for an Enhanced DBS check (and sign up to the Update Service) and to undertake a First Aid course. It is possible to apply for the DBS check through us and we also offer First Aid courses through our recent partnership with Wimbledon First Aid. We have been advised that foreign nationals need to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct from their Country of Origin. Please bring this with you when attending an interview with us.

As members of REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) we insist on meeting all candidates personally before placement. You will need to have at least two years (ideally recent and full time) relevant childcare experience and/or a recognised childcare qualification. We will need to be able to take up a minimum of two references and will ask to see relevant identification including a valid UK visa if applicable. To make an appointment or if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. We are open Monday to Friday 9.30am - 5.30pm; later appointments are available Tuesday - Thursday by arrangement. We are also happy to offer video call interviews via various platforms but these must be followed up by document check interviews at a later stage.
